England's players will wear black armbands against Finland on Saturday as a mark of respect to Her Majesty The Queen, who died on Thursday at the age of 96.
Southgate said: "It is a very sad day for the nation and for our Queen, who has been such a great supporter of football throughout her reign. We will wear black armbands against Finland as a mark of respect for Her Majesty and her family."
The Football Association has also announced that the England flag at Wembley Stadium will be flown at half-mast. A minute's silence will be held before kick-off and the national anthem will be played.
The match against Finland is England's first since the Queen's death, and the players will be keen to pay their respects to her in the best way they can.
The Queen was a lifelong fan of football and was a regular at matches at Wembley Stadium. She also attended the 1966 World Cup final, in which England beat West Germany 4-2.
